Accreditation SolutionsStay compliant - stay accredited - stay in business.Health care accreditation and certification used to be a voluntary process.Larger organizations traditionally undertook accreditation efforts to meet third-party payor requirements to obtain service contracts. Accreditation is no longer voluntary. The Medicare Modernization Act (MMA) of 2003 requires the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to institute quality standards, accreditation is an integral part of these quality standards. The MMA states that companies providing Medicare services must be accredited by 2007.
Obtaining Joint Commission accreditation, CHAP accreditation, HQAA accreditation or BOC accreditationBecoming accredited is an extensive process, usually requiring one year of dedicated work evaluating company processes, writing extensive policies and procedures, implementing these procedures, and evaluating the variances and outcomes of care, service and treatment. Each of the accrediting organizations has standards and/or criteria that set the minimum level of care, service, and treatment. These standards and/or criteria number into the hundreds and meeting them requires a dedicated staff of knowledgeable professionals. No product or service can completely eliminate the burden of accreditation, but there is a solution that simplifies the process into logical steps that may be realistically implemented. Be leery of any product, service, or consultant that guarantees to take this burden away. Organizations that undertake accreditation must change the way business is operated and documented. Business owners, managers, and employees must take the necessary steps to implement all the elements required to obtain accreditation. The decision to become accredited must come from top administration and these individuals must provide the atmosphere and resources that support accreditation success. DMETRAIN is an Internet based learning management system that teaches employees to perform their specific job duties and at the same time teaches them the necessary requirements of Joint Commission, CHAP, HQAA, BOC and ACHC. DMETRAIN is currently used by over 20,000 medical equipment employees. |
